Re: The 86th Academy Awards (2014 Oscars for 2013 films)

I missed Nebraska in the five minutes it was out over here, and Blue Jasmine , but I've either seen or plan to see (when they come out) all the other major nominees. This is a lot better than normal for me. Had the chance to catch Nebraska on limited re-release tonight. I didn't take it, so finish ...

2000+ but not quite as recent as the others I was thinking of.

For the FilmWise historians/obsessives amongst you, this is the film I always cite when describing this topic/scenario.

I know they had to spend a lot of time on the CGI but surely someone could have written a real script?

Re: August: Osage County, and other Abigail Breslin films

August should have ended with Violet by herself on the bottom of the stairs to the living room alone -- a final portrait of "ye reap what ye sow." In fact, I thought this was the ending and started getting up. Oops. Two more scenes. Why? Really bad editing. Nothing more. I agree with you. Imdb triv...

August: Osage County, and other Abigail Breslin films

Slight spoilers ahead, possibly getting stronger later. I just watched August: Osage County and absolutely loved it. As some Radio 1 critic described The Hours many years ago, "this is a real film with real acting" (she's not bad this Meryl Streep woman), but here I think it applies. It left me with...

Re: Sherlock

Well I wasn't expecting that. We're in serious danger of jumping the shark here. Right now Sherlock: - can come back from the dead - is above the law - is never in any danger because he's always thought of everything in advance Who's going to challenge him, Loki? Lex Luthor? And at one point in the ...

I'm pretty disappointed. It all feels more like an epilogue than a new series. Though I'm sure someone will tell me that's the point.

Been on a movie binge over the last week or so, so will move quickly: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug - :3stars: - It's okay, but still feels like long periods of nothing happening. Frozen - :3stars: - I know it's a family film but surely the youngest infant would ask where/how/why Olaf just app...

Re: Random thing that interested you enough to post it

This quiz on Sporcle is pretty easy but working out the most efficient way of answering it seems quite interesting. Without too much analysis I've done it in 21 names (answers are accepted in the form of names so "Moore" is a five, covering Julianne, Demi and Roger).

Re: The Last Three Movies You've Watched

Philomena (2013) - :3stars:. This was a nice little film but solely due to the performances of Judi Dench and especially Steve Coogan. He plays Martin Sixsmith right on the line of utter tool and decent person. In other words, probably exceedingly accurate. Agree that there wasn't much to it, but I...
