2007 Filmwise Awards

All movie talk goes in here, whether it's a raving review or a ranting tirade. Basically, anything about movies.

2007 Filmwise Awards

#1 Post by bdude » 11 Nov 2007, 20:49

I read a lot of reviews in my spare time, and personal awards, past Oscars, and look back at a lot of classics that have gotten lots of credibility. I also have had enough of movies getting undeserved praise. Transformers was awesome. Spider Man 3 was not bad. Superman Returns had no religious aspect, it's all in your imagination. Grizzly Man was boring. The Oscars are unforgivable. It's all a storm of bullshit, and I decided to come up with something that is honest, straightforward, and uninterrupted by commercials. Everyone has dissagreed with the rest of America before, and that's why I developed the Filmwise Awards. (I hope this has not been done before a million times)

Heres how it works:

Everyone submits candidates for Oscar subcategories, like Best Actor, Best Director, or Best Visual Effects. Then, I put them all on one big list, and we vote on which should win what, using a poll. Though, this time, we have 2nd and 3rd place, so everyone can be happy with their choices (unless they truly suck).

Now, some originality:

You can come up with your own subtopics, like I could come up with Best Montage or Song Usage. You don't have to put every subtopic, just the ones you want to put in. So you don't have to waste time trying to come up with what should win Best Original Screenplay, though you could if you wanted to. You can also include DVD's, straight to TV, documentaries, or anything that you can watch and not read. So this is a slice of everything.

Do the candidates have to be from this year or from whenever?
I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I'd bet that posts 1-4972 were before 2007.
It's such a fine line between stupid and clever.

Okay, that makes since, but that would also suggest that JJ was looking forward to the post, but was let down.

Perhaps he was looking forward to reading FW posts, but was let down when they were Agrajag's.

What I like about JJ's post, is apparently my 80-ish most recent posts haven't been a let-down! I think he's starting to like me

Best Use of Character in Wolf XJ9

Batman as Space Ghost

His posts are typically funny and appear to have had substantial effort put into them while staying in character.
The :) means it's all ok.

Surprised that JJ hasn't mentioned the Phoning It In award.

Not exactly sure who I could nominate, but there are bound to be a few performances/directors/movies that would qualify.
Statler: Well, how do you like the film?
Waldorf: I've seen detergents leave a better film than this.

Scenes that probably should have been banned, but weren't:

The blood bath scene in Hostel II
'Quite mad is he who would adopt his way of thinking to please others'

'Hedonism is the new procreation'

I remember seeing an interview with Eli Roth when he was out promoting Hostel 2. He talked about how the ratings board originally told him he needed to remove a bunch of stuff. Roth countered by saying anyone who goes to see Hostel 2 knows exactly what they're getting themselves into. The ratings board then changed their mind and let him keep a bunch of that stuff in.

Cool. I don't personally have a problem with the film (I love it) and he's right - you go to see it, you should know the plot by now.

The thing I have a problem with is the hypocrasy and double standards of censorship. For example, trying to ban violent porn and home made videos (yes, stuff made in the privacy of your own home between consenting adults could, in the future, get you arrested), but allowing this scene (and many others, of course) when it is so clearly erotically charged.

It's 2008, and pretty much time to start. I realized that this is going to be a long and hard thing to run this way, so I narrowed down the rules a bit.

First, let's just keep it at movies. We could have a separate contest for TV awards and stuff like that. Also, in the end, we should have at least 15 - 20 categories to have movies in. Don't make your categories too obscure or anything, I'd like kind of general categories, like maybe Best Come. You could do something like Goriest Sequence or Best Action Scene, but not something like Best Character's Earing That Has a Picture of a Penis on it. Lastly, at the end when we have nominees for the categories, you can PM me the votes on them, and I'll post the final outcome. Don't email me because I never check it, I only use it to delete emails confirming my movie downloads of Fuckleberry Fin, Doing Miss Daisy, and Honey, I Fucked the Kids. Thank you.
