A Star Is Born (2018)

All movie talk goes in here, whether it's a raving review or a ranting tirade. Basically, anything about movies.

A Star Is Born (2018)

#1 Post by alan smithee » 06 Oct 2018, 19:01

I enjoyed this more than I expected to. I'll ramble more in a bit, but would love to hear others' perspectives, especially those comparing this with previous versions of the film.

my take: 2018 > 1937 > 1976 > 1954
It's such a fine line between stupid and clever.

I enjoyed the performances, but didn't really care too much for the music. Lady Gaga was great. Does she really have a big nose? It didn't look that much bigger than Bradley Cooper's nose.

I haven't seen the other versions so I can't compare it. I did find it interesting that Jon Peters was listed as a producer for this. As Barbra Streisand's former beau I think he had a hand in her version of this film.
Robin: "Gosh, Batman, is there anything you don't know?"
Batman: "Oh yes, Robin. Several things, in fact."

I'm guessing he had rights of some sort that Cooper (et al.) needed

Peters had some obsession with giant mechanical spiders—wanted 'em for his potential Superman movie (when he owned the rights)... thankfully, I didn't see one in A Star Is Born. of course, one ended up in the masterpiece Wild Wild West...
