Best Picture nominees:
  1. :check: Disraeli (1929) :3stars: Pretty good story. Nothing against it, but like a lot of films from this time it felt like a stage production.
  2. :check: The Love Parade (1929) :2stars: Decent characters, but very dated, and a weak story.
  3. :empty: Imitation of Life (1934)
  4. :check: The Barretts of Wimpole Street (1934) :2.5stars: Good, but not for me.
  5. :check: A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935) :3.5stars: Mickey Rooney was too annoying to rank it any higher.
  6. :check: A Tale of Two Cities (1935) :4stars: Some great performances, and I was very impressed by the scale of this one.
  7. :check: Anthony Adverse (1936) :2stars: Can't believe this was nominated.
  8. :check: Romeo and Juliet (1936) :3stars: Probably deserves at least another half star, but I'm too fond of the 1968 version to rank it any higher.
  9. :empty: A Star is Born (1937)
  10. :empty: Lost Horizon (1937)
  11. :check: Boys Town (1938) :3stars: Apparently I don't like Mickey Rooney as much as I thought I did.
  12. :check: Test Pilot (1938) :4stars: Some great flying scenes, and a much better character piece than I expected.
  13. :check: Random Harvest (1942) :4stars: I generally don't care for "amnesia" movies, but this was really well done.
  14. :check: For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943) :3stars: Had it's moments, but not enough of them.
  15. :check: Watch on the Rhine (1943) :3.5stars: This film's message must have been very powerful during the war.
  16. :check: Quo Vadis (1951) :3.5stars: I particularly liked Peter Ustinov in this.
  17. :check: Ivanhoe (1952) :4stars: I particularly liked George Sanders in this.
  18. :check: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) :4.5stars: Wonderful cast, and a strong take on human nature.
  19. :check: A Passage to India (1984) :4stars: The story felt a bit off at times, but visually wonderful.
  20. :check: The Remains of the Day (1993) :2.5stars: Good performances, but it bored me to tears.

Looks like I'm going to have to switch out a film from my list as I can't find a downloadable version nor a hard copy of Il Postino. The good news is that I had to forgo Underground last year because the only copy I could find had only Italian subtitles. Just this past weekend I found a copy for £3. So I'll swap that one out and try and accomplish Il Postino next year.
