Not sure the subheading is right for Friday the 13th Part VI ;)

But this is excellent work. Thank you.

Enough time has passed. It's time for the inevitable reboot.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) vs Friday the 13th (2009)

Quality of Cast- On Elm Street, Jackie Earl Haley tries to fill the shoes of Robert Englund as Freddy. He does a decent enough job but I don't know if anyone alive could fill the role made so iconic by Robert Englund without falling short. Rooney Mara revises the Nancy role. Other notable names include Connie Britton, Kellan Lutz and Kyle Gallner.

Over at Camp Crystal Lake, Jared Padalecki leads the way. He is joined by Danielle Panabaker and Aaron Yoo. They are all ok, but no one does anything all that special.

Elm Street has a little more star power than Friday. On the other hand, there is no nudity on Elm Street while Friday has 3 separate boob scenes, including one spectacular pair. I'm calling this category a draw.

Quality of Kills- Jason wins this one in a landslide. I kept detailed notes of each kill. The body county total is 4-13 in Friday's favor. 3 of Freddie's 4 kills are run of the mill glove slashes. The only notable one is his blades through a pair of eyes. Friday's kills include:

-machete through the chest
-girl trapped in sleeping bag and roasted over a fire!
-machete chops through the floor
-machete to the head after trapping with a bear trap
23 minutes in and we've equaled Freddy's total
-machete throat slash
-arrow through the head
-smashed with a boat and then a spike through the head
-screwdriver through the temple
-ax to the back
-neck snap
-pike through the eye
-spiked on the back of a tow truck
-machete to the chest

Quality of Plot- This category is pretty even. The overall story is better with Friday, but the idea of Jason taking a hostage is ridiculous an can't be ignored. Elm Street has some interesting visuals. The kids solve the mystery of why they are dying much too easily. Also, the film relies much too heavily on "micronaps" to lazily fill the film with jump scares.

Based on bodycount and the lack of a clear winner in the other categories, I'm calling this a 10-8 win for Friday. We come to these movies to see teenagers get slaughtered and that is where Friday delivers.
