Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood

I love the idea of a psychic powered girl going toe to toe with Jason. I don’t love the story they built to make that happen with the psychiatrist and dead father in the lake. It takes a simple, good idea and makes it unnecessarily complicated. This is where the series takes a strong downturn is the last decent one for a while. This is supposedly the most heavily edited film in the franchise in order to achieve an R rating. Its very likely it would have been more effective in its initial form.

Its really frustrating to me that all of the cuts from this series were not kept anywhere. It seems like Paramount could have made another load of money off these films by releasing uncut versions of the films today. Its a very shortsighted strategy to not keep all this lost footage somewhere.

Halloween

Slasher horror doesn’t get any more classic than this.

Halloween 2

A small hospital at night is a terrific setting for a horror movie. Its a little clumsy the way they shoehorn in a nude scene but when the end result is see tits like these its hard to complain. Loomis is a little nutty in the first one but he is off the deep end in part 2. “I shot him six times!”

My Bloody Valentine

The greatest 3D slasher movie of all time loses a few mph off its fastball when seen in 2D but its still got enough fun to be worthwhile.

Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2

This somehow manages to seem lower budget than the original. Its not without its charms, though and has some legit creepy moments. I think the plot is an interesting way to piggyback on the first Blair Witch.

but I always found it funny that in opening sequence of H2, he actually shoots him 7 times....with a 6 shot revolver

and if you watch closely, Michael staggers out onto the balcony backwards as if in mid-air, and then over the the railing without ever hitting it. Still, I do love this sequel.

And it's Dana Carvey's feature film debut. Who could ask for more.

I've seen this at least a dozen times and never noticed Carvey. I always thought his first movie was the mime in Spinal Tap. I never took the time to count the Loomis shots, either. I've been missing so much.

:red: wrong, but that movie couldn't be worse than some of the movies in the franchise

Here Alone

This is decent. I think if you’re trying to make a movie on a small budget, you can’t go wrong with the “people in isolation after a mysterious event has decimated the world” storyline. You introduce your group, have them come into contact with another group, add some conflict and viola, you’ve got an interesting study on humanity.

Deep Red

Dario Argento is in a class by himself when it comes to making unsettling movies. Something about the music and weird shit he includes throws me off every time. They’re great, but I tend to be nervous throughout much of the film.
