Herein lie spoilers. Discuss.
Robin: "Gosh, Batman, is there anything you don't know?"
Batman: "Oh yes, Robin. Several things, in fact."

aside from the comedic value of Groot, Drax, and Rocket Racoon (in that order), I've got an overall meh for the sequel.

In all seriousness, I thought they handled it as well as they could for a sequel to such a surprisingly succesful and fun first movie. Sure, it had its flaws, but it stuck to the same tropes as the original and I was smiling throughout the film. The biggest problem was that it was no longer such a surprise, as we had already seen the first film. And perhaps the introduction of yet more characters (multiple villains, new team members), but most of this was well compensated by the excellent execution, Groot (how awesome was that first sequence?) and Drax. Kurt Russel was great as Ego and I liked how they handled the Yondu angle. Will it be as gamechanging as Vol. 1 or Deadpool? Absolutely not, but I still had tons of fun.
Come play with us, Danny. Forever and ever and ever.

I had a very good time watching this. As Middle said, the opening sequence of cute Groot in the foreground with the rest of the team battling away in the background was awesome and really set the tone for the rest of the film. I thought it was very funny, especially Bautista. I didn't know he was so comedically capable.

I think James Gunn has shown to be very adept at balancing high levels of action and comedy, while still finding room for his films to have touching moments, as well.
The :) means it's all ok.

I loved Groot, Drax and Rocket. I agree with A² and Middle in that, as a sequel, it was pretty well done. It could never have been as great as the first. I'm going to miss Blue Merle.

As a side note, I watched it in 3D. This is the first 3D movie I have seen in probably 8 or 9 years. I remember it as being pretty good, but damn, this was beautiful. The 3D was crystal clear, I don't remember it being that clear. This might have altered that way I viewed the film (figuratively as well as literally).
I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I remember thinking/feeling that way when I saw Avatar in IMAX 3D.
