Worst Film of All Time That Is Acceptable For Others To Like

All movie talk goes in here, whether it's a raving review or a ranting tirade. Basically, anything about movies.

Worst Film of All Time That Is Acceptable For Others To Like

#1 Post by JJ » 10 Mar 2004, 10:42

This is to post the worst films you've seen that aren't obviously horrendous films (i.e. Gigli is out), and aren't films that are universally liked but you hated (i.e. if you hated Godfather, that's out), but for films that you might hear people discussing at a cocktail party that some liked and some didn't, but you feel is the absolute worst POS of all time. So it's not the Others like / You didn't thing -- it's Others May have Liked; You think is a POS

My three nominations:

#3 Postcards from the Edge
#2 Death Becomes Her
#1 Soapdish

Am I the only person here who hated this? IMDB gave it a 6.1, roughly in the View to a Kill range...

I liked it too. Maybe if you were a bigger Whoopi Goldberg fan...

I was, until... (SPOILER BELOW OF LEUD AND GRAPHIC NATURE)

...Ted Danson described having intimate relations with her as like "throwing a hotdog down a hallway".

OK, I really didn't like her before then, either. See Jumping Jack Flash or Burglar.

Well, that wasn't the way in which I was a fan...

And I liked Jumping Jack Flash, and Ghost, and The Color Purple.

Ted Danson has had "intimate relations" with multiple Academy Award winners (for acting). Skipping over the obvious "they must be great at faking orgasms" and any "multiple" jokes, I wonder who else are multiple Oscar intimate relaters? Who holds the record? These are the important questions of our time.

I certainly didn't hate it, but it's high up on the overhyped-Best-Picture-winners list, along with Gladiator (that's two for you, Mr. Crowe), The Sting, On the Waterfront, The Silence of the Lambs, ...

I really liked Gladiator but your right about it the more I watch it the more I think it starts to drag on.

As for Beautiful mind I hated it too. I figured out the the whole multi personality in the begining so that wasn't a shocker and the most annoying part was Russell mumbiling his lines so bad and his crappy american accent I could barely understand anything he said.

I thought that Cider House Rules was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It had about 5 redeaming seconds in the shot of Charlize's bare ass and everything else was total crap.

I especially hate any movie that encourages you to root for one guy to steal another guys girl. Typically the movie will make the guy out to be a turd to make it acceptable but in Cider House the dude was off fighting for his country. For that we're supposed to root for that weiner Maguire to steal his girl. Bleh.
The :) means it's all ok.

Well, there aren't too many films I'd call the worst, but in my opinion, these are really crummy despite critical praise to some extent. I'd say the entire Austin Powers series, but really, that's three films and that'd be a waste of votes. So, we'll count that as one. Also, The Magnificent Ambersons, which I just recently watched (so it's fresh in my mind and I probably wouldn't have thought of it otherwise). I thought it was boring beyond belief; I'm not sure what others think about this film but it was one of the most droll movie watching experiences in my life. Lastly, I don't care if anyone else liked it, but so many people convinced me to shell out 8 bucks because Bring It On was "not your typical teenage fare....you'd actually like it, tee hee."

Wow Animal House? I never thought I'd see anyone list that...What made you hate it so much?

I totally agree with Cider House Rules I was so bored I started to fast foward to see Charlize Theron naked and finally gave up and took it back to the video store and told them it was broken to get another movie without paying for it.

Animal House is just simply nowhere near as funny as it is made out to be. It could be that the humor of it is just lost on me. I always thought it just not very smart or clever. It seemed as if a lot of the jokes were based on "Haha...that guy is SOOO drunk." Of course, it's been about five years since I've seen it.
