Host Game Round 11 - Patsy's Old to New

#1 Post by Patsy Klubb » 22 May 2003, 01:27

The game I have put together has no definite answers and will rely on your abilities (IMDb may be used for this).
As previously done you have to go from one actor to the target actor using whatever films you can using as few moves as possible.
You will only score a point if you use the least moves of everyone, obviously anyone using the same number of moves also get the point.

If you are able to name a movie that has both actors in it then you get 2 points (I don't know whether there are any).

A bonus of 5 points will also be available to anyone that provides a solution for all ten.

The Old to New thing is because the starting point in each case will be an actor who became famous way before the target actor.

Obviously all answers to be sent to me via PM and results will only be published at the end of the run time.

The starts and targets are as follows:

1 Laurence Olivier to Laurence Fishburne
2 John Gielgud to John Malkovich
3 Mel Brooks to Mel Gibson
4 Sean Connery to Sean Patrick Flanery
5 Tom Berenger to Tom Cruise
6 Gary Busey to Gary Oldman
7 Cary Grant to Carrie Fisher
8 Jane Russell to Jane Fonda
9 Vincent Price to Vincent D'Onofiro
10 James Stewart to James Spader

Please note:

No TV series or TV Films are allowed and no Gala Nights either.

It would also be helpful if you send your 10 entries in one go than a bit at a time though this isn't a strict rule

This would be so much easier with a pen and paper  I'll wait till I get home.
Lionel Hutz, aka Miguel Sanchez, aka Dr. Nguyen van Thoc, was paid $8 for his 32 hours of babysitting.

He was glad to get it.

Patsy --

I know that there is at least one website that does precisely this operation (minimizing links between two actors) - could you please prohibit its use as part of this game?

(Perhaps you may also want to scope it out so you can see what its answers are and DQ anyone with an abundance of same...)

I've already stated the only tool allowed apart from your own "brains" and that is IMDb

Several horribly pedantic questions:

(1) Are direct-to-video movies allowed?
(2) Can we use non-actors to link (e.g., writers)?
(3) What time (in what time zone) is Saturday's deadline?
(4) Do you have a preferred format for the answers (more so than most of the games, I suspect this one will be a pain in the arse to grade)?

(Right now, mine look like Laurence Olivier <- "Hamlet" -> Desmond Llewellyn <- "The Matrix Revolutions" -> Laurence Fishburne.)

(5) Can they be "uncredited" roles, so long as they appear in the IMDb? (I hope so, otherwise Desmond Llewellyn is out! :joker: )
(6) Can we use movies that aren't out yet?
(7) Am I taking this way too seriously? (I'm assuming yes... )
It's such a fine line between stupid and clever.

Should we start grading our own papers?

Anyone take less than 25 links to do all 10 matches?

2+1+2+2+1+2+3+3+2+2 = 20

By links, you mean actors or movies?

In my case, I meant movies (e.g., "1" means that the two actors Patsy gave were in a movie together.)
