Alright, guys, listen up.

FilmWise's fifth birthday is coming up, and I've had a chat with Nipples about modifying the Forums a bit. Over the last 4+ years the Forums have grown tremendously, and a re-design is called for. For one, some threads will be merged, moved, etc. Also, there will most likely be subforums incorporated; so for example the FilmWise Stuffages forum will have one subforum for Invisibles threads, one for asking for help, and so on. These changes will all take place over the next few weeks.

It's possible the Forums will need to be offline for this, for a few hours, but I will give fair warnings. From now on, all Forum-related changes and updates, etc, will be posted in here, so do check back from time to time.

If you have any questions, ask away, or PM me. There are more things in the pipeline so stay tuned. Thanks for reading, and thanks for your patience.

Ok, I've had a further look into this, and I've decided not to do anything at present. Instead, I am waiting for the next release of phpBB, version 3 (aka Olympus). It's going to be excellent with a lot of features I hope everyone will find useful. Some of these new features that should be particularly interesting to us are:

Private Messages
* Send to multiple recipients or groups
* Send Blind Carbon Copies (BCC)
* Forward messages
* PM Drafts
* PM folders

Search
* Search inside topics
* Select multiple forums and categories to search

Polls
* Allow/disallow vote change

Misc
* Bookmark topics

Attachments
* Attachments in posts and PMs
* Attach images, documents, video streams, archives

Custom BBCodes
* Create your own BBCodes

User Control Panel
* Manage subscribed topics & forums
* Manage bookmarked topics
* Manage saved drafts
* Manage private messages
* Manage friends and foes
* Manage attachments

New Moderating Tools
* Topic merging
* Topic history

Friends and Foes
* Add other members as friends or foes
* Posts by foes are hidden
* Friends are shown in friends list

Warnings and Reports
* Users can report topics and posts
* Moderators can warn users

Plus a whole slew of Admin tools which will make my job so much easier. I think this release is going to be awesome, and it provides us with a lot of stuff we've been looking to implement, like searching inside topics, sending PMs to multiple recipients, and custom BBCode (so we can finally implement that [spoiler] tag.

It will also have a sleeker interface and a lot of other little bits you'll come to notice as we go along. I'll give everyone fair warning when this upgrade is going to take place (as we'll probably need to close the board for a few hours), but there isn't even a release date for Olympus yet, so no need to worry about it yet.

More here for those who are interested.

Stay tuned to this thread for updates.

Somehow I don't see that "foe" feature being used too often around here. All the ocd folks simply won't be able to handle knowing there are unseen posts out there.

is no one going to respond to my previous post? I can't believe my post could just sit there and not a single person would respond to it.

I'm gonna be doing some modifications and updates for the next half hour, so the board may be temporarily disabled at times. Thanks for your patience.

All complaints to jeremiahsjohnson@sbcglobal.net.

Ok, forums are back. I might have to do some more of this tomorrow or the next day, so please don't panic if it tells you the forum is unavailable. I'll never keep it offline for more than an hour at a time.

It's particular convenient, too. I think I had a credit card offer to send him.

A friend of mine at work didn't want the company calling him on off-hours, so he changed his home number in the company directory as 767-2676.

Announcement!

knarf is now my second-in-command. He was doing such a super job sending me lists of people to delete and IPs to ban, he's now gonna help me control the spam levels.

So, everyone, send all complaints to him. :tongue:

We're cool if you keep the delete button away from Movie Connections.

Ok everyone, listen up.

Due to the amount of spam we get, we have a lot of members who have zero posts (because their spam has been deleted), but still sit in our memberlist advertising stuff we don't want to be associated with.

Therefore, sometime soon (in the next few days I would think), I am going to delete all accounts with a post count of zero. Around 95% of them are spam, or people who registered years ago and still haven't posted.

It's unfortunate that some people will be deleted who have registered and just not had time to make a post yet, but that's how it is since it's an automated process.

So, if you see this, you have zero posts, and you don't want your account deleted, post something in one of our numerous threads and you won't be deleted.

Everyone else with zero posts will be gone, and I will carry out this process from time to time, so don't sit there on zero posts.

This is how it starts.

When the Nunis came for the Hollywood Hopefuls,
I remained silent;
I was not a Hollywood Hopeful.

When she kicked out the Paparazzi,
I remained silent;
I was not a Paparazzi.

When she eliminated the Key Grips,
I did not speak out;
I was not a Key Grip.

When she deleted the Lead Actors,
I did not speak out;
I was not a Lead Actor.

When she came for me,
there was no one left to speak out. :tongue:
