30 Rock

#1 Post by Nunis » 12 Dec 2008, 01:43

This show deserves its own thread. It's the funniest damn thing on TV right now.

Some gems from last night:

Kenneth: I love helping people less fortunate than me.
Toofer: Where do you find them?
Kenneth: There are these Nigerians on the Internet that help me.

Kenneth: Those are gonna be the happiest poor kids since my brother and I went to Neverland Ranch.

Tracy: If all you want is a hug from a black person, maybe you should just host The Price is Right.

And the best one:

Liz: You don't know the Postmaster General, do you?
Jack: I do, but we had a falling out over the Jerry Garcia stamp. I mean, if I wanted to lick a hippie, I'd just return Joan Baez's phone calls.

The worst episodes this year have been the celebrity guest star episodes. We've already had Oprah, Steve Martin, and Jennifer Anniston. Enough already. The show is great enough without them. The episodes are so forced because the story must revolve around the guests. OK we can have more Jennifer Anniston, but only if she wears her tie.

:green: Except no more jenny aniston either. Why would a great show try so hard. This whole season has not been as good as previous seasons.

Got to admit, It's one show I never really got into. May get the boxset when it's in the bargain bin and check it out one day.

I have recently become a huge fan of this show. One of my favorite quotes, as I've only watched the first season, is:

Liz: Why are you wearing a tux?!
Jack: It's after 6. What am I, a farmer?

The theater of noise is proof of our potential. The circulation of autotypes. The golden talisman underfoot is phenomenon approaching. And, in the history of now, all ethos are designed.

My favourite quotes are still "I want to go to there" (possibilities for using this in everyday conversation are endless), and the Joan Baez quote above.

But you haven't gotten that far yet, spivey. I'm jealous you get to see all these episodes for the first time. I'm totally in love with this show.

I didn't like some of the zany situations in this week's episode, but there were some great lines.

Elisa: But I have to go to church.
Jack: On Valentine's Day? Is that a thing?
Elisa: It is the feast of the martyrdom of St. Valentine. Please, Jack, don't tell me you're one of those convenient Catholics that only goes to church every Sunday.

Later in the show - a delightfully unexpected reference to Malice:

Jack (to a priest in a confessional): I once claimed "I am God"...during a deposition.
You see, Hopsi, you don't know very much about girls. The best ones aren't as good as you probably think they are and the bad ones aren't as bad. Not nearly as bad.

I've been home sick the last two days and started watching this on the Roku. I'm about halfway through season 1 (and getting to watch them twice, since Mr B said he wasn't interested and then caught about 10 mins of an episode last night and decided maybe he did want to see it after all so we started over) and loving it. Although watching a comedy when you have a terrible cough isn't really the best idea.

Please tell me about this Roku

It's cool. It works with Netflix. If you don't have a DVR of xBox that can connect to Netflix Roku will. Anything you want to instant view anything you can watch it on your TV with Roku.

I was laughing at this one on a full commuter train.

I've had the show since last weekend, and I've been watching 3-4 episodes daily now. It's perfect for the 40 minute trainride I'm on twice every day.

Great show, really funny.
Come play with us, Danny. Forever and ever and ever.

"A guy crying about a chicken and a baby? I thought this was a comedy show." fell incredibly flat. I blame the writing and the Alda.

Oh my gosh, nice catch! That slipped by me while I was watching the episode. It's a gutsy reference, but yeah, maybe the writing or the delivery could have been tweaked a bit to give it more punch.
