This is the new HBO series starting Sunday. I have to say, I haven't heard anything about it.

HEREis a run down of the plot.

Good cast, too. Brad Dourif's in it, so it's gotta be cool. :D

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

my first reaction was: 'we already have a dirty, dusty brown show on hbo called carnivale'...

i've never been a big fan of westerns, but i'll give it a shot...

This make sme wish I had HBO, I love westerns with the cool gunfights but regular TV makes em all hoakey, you know where the guy gets shot and falls down and theres no blood or bullet hole or anything.

The preview I saw makes this look like its going to be as gritty as the Sopranos it should be really good.

The Sunday night series is the only reason I have HBO.

Cool Timothy Olyphant. I hope it will be as good as Carnivàle.

I didn't really like Carnivale... but I watched all of it cuz I felt invested... there just wasn't enough happening in it for me... and then when they have an episode where it all happens they end with a cliffhanger. Bastards.

I watched a behind the scenes of DEADWOOD last night... and it seems very interesting... great actors involved... also interesting that the head writer is so character driven that he often changes the script depending on how an actor performs their previous lines... if they seem to be acting the character into another direction he will actually write that new direction in... often changing the entire focus of an episode... I'd personally hate him... but it will be interesting to see what happens.

I don't think I will be watching... I'll watch the premier... but I don't see myself getting hooked.

This didn't look good enough for me to stay up and watch after the sopranos last night.

I enjoyed it - a lot of time spent introducing characters of course, but I'll definitely check it out again next week.

I enjoyed it too. Like Knarf, I need to watch next week's episode because the first one is all about character introduction. But, it wasn't bad.

Although, Calamity Jane might be the most annoying character ever.

i found myself really bored watching it...

maybe it's because of my past western-watching experiences, but did anyone else find it a little odd that everyone was calling each other a fucking cocksucker every two minutes?

(except the whores weren't called cocksuckers...i guess they don't like being literal...)

Yes, I DID notice that the word "cocksucker" was readily used. Actually, my husband thought it would make a great drinking game. :D

I was thinking the same thing, she was the only part of the show I didn't love.

Timothy Olyphant is going to be total Badass in this show. 8)

This should be able to hold me over t'il Carnivàle starts up again.

First and last viewing for me. It wasn't terrible, but it was well below average for me. Humdrum, boring, and lots of gratuitous swearing. The plot was pretty boring. And they kept using speech patterns and phrases that seemed way too 21st (or at least 20th) century (e.g., were people really using the expression "due dilligence" in 1876? "Damn it, Sol, we need to leverage our synergies -- we'll need to outsource some work and improve our methodologies. Let's take this off-line."). (And Keith Carradine just reminds me of another snooze-fest: Nashville.)

Not that it would keep me from watching it, but it soooo obvious that the language wasn't natural speech patterns but forced swearing for the sake of swearing, that it was distracting. I liked the show tho, and I'll give it a few more tries.

If it helps to make anyones mind up on the show... it was either the most watched premier on HBO (or was it cable in general)

Which means it's going to be around for at least the rest of it's season.

Why does it mean that?

Episode two's numbers will tell plenty more.

It's cable... it's money is set... it's not reliant on advertising... so they don't as much care as to viewer numbers... unless it's a good number... then it's a given to be on for awhile.

Umm ... but the advertisers utilize the count of viewers ...

This is a TV show? Somebody actually gave the green light to a show called dead wood? Yikes... confidence must've been through the roof.

I've been watching and thought so too. There were a few weaker ones in the middle of the season, but overall I really enjoyed it.
