Portal?

Yup, that's the one... Anyone here play it? Is it worth buying? I see there are at least two versions... Is one better, more fun, more difficult that the other?

It's a good game, even though not very long (20 levels, if I recall correctly), but some of the levels are a bit frustrating. If you're talking about the pc version. It was on that sale I've mentioned on Steam, about a week or so ago.

Has anyone played Trine? It's really entertaining, with its physx engine.

So it's a definate "NO" that you can't fully load a game on the hard drive? Or has just no one tried? I can believe that they would not allow it... but I thought I would ask.

I'm not talking about the PC version. I never really got into PC gaming besides The Sims or SimCity or You Don't Know Jack. Never really liked computer controls. Anybody play the console version of Portal? Are console games really any different than the PC version (besides the controls)?

I believe it's a no, but I'm not much of a gamer. My friend in LA had Xbox Live and explained that on that system, he would download the game to the hard drive (for faster gameplay-no waiting on screens loading) but the disc was needed in order to play it. Even with the entire game on the hard drive, the system was smart enough to look for the disc in the drive before it would allow you to play. Once it confirmed the disc was in, it would start reading off the drive.

I would assume this is standard across all platforms to avoid people from renting a game for a week, and then playing it forever.

Yeah... thats more what I was expecting too... So I guess that sells me on the 120 GB version. Thanks all!

So I remember specifically that many game magazines had websites where they would consolidate all their game reviews into a nice easily serachable database. So how come I can't seem to find anything like that anymore? Is this a way to force you to buy a PSM membership. I really don't like having all those magazines around. :x

Or at the very least a way to buy the mag as an online version? A membership website even to hide their reviews? Why don't they even have that?

Or maybe I just didn't search well enough.

Of websites, I find that it's the only reviewer out there that nearly equals my skill.

For anyone that played Mass Effect the sequel is a must.

So I've heard. I've got Mass Effect, but I'm not nearly done playing it yet (as in, I have several other games to finish first).

It is worth giving the first one a play through so you can set your own story. The decisions you make do have a visiable effect on the second. The bonus to your starting level is a nice perk but not huge advantage.

What a surprise; it was made by a Dutch company...

Makes me wonder, if even A² doesn't like it, what the hell would the target demographic be?

I found it in a discount bin and based on the description on the box it looked like it was right in my wheelhouse. Unfortunately the gameplay and mechanics are so poorly done its impossible to enjoy.

If you did, you'd just have to talk to him.

Dance naked in front of him?

Failing that... play it too, and beat his ass. That's sure to make him turn it off in a huff.

There is no escape. I'm hooked as well. Actually F.N.G's advice is pretty solid that is sure to piss him off and make him not want to play.

Thanks guys! Wish I had time to play computer games - most of my time on the computer these days is spent either making PowerPoints for school or filling in application forms.

Will try to get some CoD action in over Easter. He got miffed when I was better than him at Abba and Take That SingStar, so fingers crossed he'll be annoyed if I can shoot the shit out of him on CoD!
