The Official Filmwise Sports Thread

#1 Post by Will » 01 Jul 2004, 03:47

Ok, I''ve been looking and I don't think we have a thread to generally discuss sports in. So here it is....

Rules for this thread:

1.) All three pointers will be from the pro line.
2.) No instant replay, we want to keep the human element in.
3.) No DH
4.) All disputes will be settled by a shootout, or penalty kicks for our euro peeps.
5.) Don't fake the funk on the nasty dunk
6.) Candelsticks make a nice wedding gift.

I watched the Red Sox and Yankees last night. Yeah, nothing interesting to say but I did.
Lionel Hutz, aka Miguel Sanchez, aka Dr. Nguyen van Thoc, was paid $8 for his 32 hours of babysitting.

He was glad to get it.

I don't think ESPN should be allowed to telecast poker and pretend that it's a sport.
The :) means it's all ok.

i don't think it's fair for players in a poker tourney to wear giant roy orbison sunglasses and hats while they play so people won't see their tells...

it's supposed to be a game of skill, not a game of 'dress up like the unabomber'...

Oooooh man, we're crashing. Horrible defense is killing the Sox. Now 7.5 games behind the Spanks. We'll be lucky to stay in the wild-card race at this point.

I think Philly's going to run away from the pack in the NFC East this year.
I know the Skins got Portis and Joe Gibbs, but until I actually see Dan Snyder's $$$ producing on the field, I'm not going to take them as a serious contender.

And I love Dallas's defense, but is it possible that their offense could be worse this year?

A2 and I have already had this conversation, but I still can't understand why people are so high on Minnesota this year.

Basketball:
The Pistons are the first NBA champions in eleven years who didn't have either Robert Horry or Steve Kerr on their roster.

Yeah I've had a rough couple of seasons, I'm just hoping for a decent amount of wins.
I can't bring myself to think Dallas will win any games but thats just the fan inside of me. I think they'll be ok but no better than the skins.

When do we sign-up for fantasy NFL?

That Ortiz guy really looked stoopid when he missed the ball completely.

QB- Quincy has another year of experience, so he should be better. Of course, he could improve and still be medicore. Still, it;s hard to envision him regressing. The only way the QB position is worse is if Parcell's gets so frustrated with Carter that he benches him and goes ahead with the Henson learning experience. (or, God forbid, Testaverde.)

RB- Troy Hambrick was such a bust that the only areas I envision Julius Jones being worse at are in his blocking and route running. I can't imagine him being a worse runner. Cason and Ritchie Anderson should play the same as they did last year.

Receiving- "no heart" Galloway was switched out for "me-first" Keyshawn. Fortunately, Keyshawn fits the system and complements the talents of the other receivers better than Galloway. The hope is that Parcells is enough of a force to keep him in line. Antonio Bryant will need to get out of Parcell's dog house. I don't know that they will be any better than last year's receiving group but it's hard to see them being worse.

blocking- I haven't followed the changes that have taken place along the line, so I don't really know if this will be better or worse. It looks like Larry Allen is goingto try to play another year with the Cowboys. I don't know if that makes the line better or worse, though.

So, looking at all that, I expect the offense to be a little better this year.
The :) means it's all ok.

So I hear, see me other post above. Tizzle is the man with the bat, but he should be the full-time DH (doesn't have to field). He was only there because Trot Nixon, the Right Fielder, pulled his hammy in the warm-up and had to DH himself. Right now, we're struggling.

The guy that reads the sports scores on the morning radio station I listen to from like 4am to 6am absolutely butchers names every morning (Gene Fogel on WJR for my Detroit peeps). This morning I'm sitting here laughing my arse off every time he pauses for like 5 seconds then doesn't even come close to pronouncing Krzyzewski right.

That's amazing. The first time I saw that name in print, I couldn't pronounce it, but when I realized they were talking about Duke's head coach, I knew it was "sha-shef-ski" they were talking about. (although if you asked me to, I still couldn't spell it... even if I looked at your post. )

I actually sent him an e-mail once and told him he should have someone spell out all the hard names phonetically. He didn't respond, I'm not sure why.

No DH? I'm confused.

And another thing, when you tackle in American Football are you allowed to hold them?
What, does he think you're a c**t?

Whilst this thread is a good idea, it is pretty much just limited to those in the US, not fair!
