Blatant rip off of Sugar and JJ's music game

#1 Post by » 01 Feb 2007, 12:31

The last couple of years I have stolen the Christmas music game and made my own version at my superbowl party. It's been pretty popular as it gives all the non-football fans who show up something to do.

Anyway, this year I decided to let the radio choose the songs for me. Over the last week I have written down all the songs I have heard on the radio and used them to create this game.

In all but a few cases I just used the opening line from the song and no artists were duplicated. They are also in the order that i heard them on the radio.

This is not intended in anyway to compete with the excellent version of this game we recently played. I just figured since it was already made I'd go ahead and post it and see if anyone wanted to play along.

Don't bother submitting answers to me, I'll leave you on the honor system to grade yourselves and post (if you want) your scores on Monday when I give the answers.
The :) means it's all ok.

1 I walk a lonely road, the only one that I have ever known
2 Two o'clock this morning, if she should come a calling
3 Sirens ring, the shots ring out, a stranger cries, screams out loud
4 Stay for just a while, stay and let me look at you
5 A woman on the radio talked about revolution when it's already passed her by
6 We got the afternoon, you got this room for two
7 Cruisin' down the motorway, got my girl by my side
8 I never meant to be so bad to you, one thing I said that I would never do
9 Waitin', watchin the clock, it's four o'clock it's got to stop
10 Goddamn you half Japanese girls do it to me every time
11 When you're weary, feeling small
12 I don't know how much time has passed all I know is that it feels like forever
13 I want you to know that I'm happy for you
14 You're always dancing down the street with your suede blue eyes
15 I'm lyin' here on the floor where you left me, I think I took too much
16 Doctors have come from distant cities just to see me
17 Somebody told me, boy, everything she wants is everything she sees
18 Come to decide that the things that I tried were in my life just to get high on
19 I was going to clean my room until I got high
20 They want my treasure so they get their pleasure from my photo
21 When I die and they lay me to rest, gonna go to the place that's the best
22 I would dial the numbers just to listen to your breath
23 Since I met you I begun to feel so strange
24 You think that we connect, that the chemistrys correct
25 Right now he's probably slow dancing with a bleach blond tramp
26 We're not scared to lose it all, security throw through the wall
27 Look in the mirror girl, by now you should know
28 Woke up to the sound of pouring rain
29 Baby, baby, baby don't leave me
30 I've paid my dues, time after time
31 Dearly beloved we are gathered here today
32 Hanging out the passenger side of his best friend's ride trying to hollar at me
33 I took my baby on a Saturday night, boy is that girl with you
34 The old folks say that you gotta end your date by ten
35 Hold it now and watch the hoodwink as I make you stop, think
36 Out here in the fields I fight for my meals
37 Maybe I don't really want to know how your garden grows
38 I'm gonna be here for you baby, I'll be a man of my word
39 Each day through my window I watch her as she passes by
40 I live in an apartment on the 99th floor of my block
41 There is freedom within, there is freedom without
42 It's a little bit funny, this feeling inside
43 Hope dangles on a string like slow spinning redemption
44 Did I disappoint you or let you down?
45 And even though the moment passed me by I still can't turn away
46 You are my fire, the one desire
47 I thought I saw a man brought to life
48 Rubbed up, just relaxin' in the tub thinkin' everything was alright
49 Gonna use my arms, gonna use my legs, gonna use my style
50 Big wheels keep on turning, carry me home to see my kin
51 Can't live for tomorrow, tomorrow's much too long
52 I been working so hard, keep punching my card
53 New blood joins this Earth and quickly he's subdued
54 Breathe in breathe out, Tied to a wheel fingers got to feel
55 Suckin on chili dogs outside the tastee freeze
56 Harry Truman, Doris Day, Red China, Johnny Ray
57 She can be 18 with an attitude or 19 kinda snotty acting real rude
58 In the day we sweat it out in the streets of a runaway American dream
59 You only have so many relationships in life, only 1 or 2 will last
60 On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
61 We'll do it all, everything, on our own
62 Who said that every wish would be heard and answered?
63 Caroline! Caroline! All the guys would say she's mighty fine
64 You know you're a cute little heartbreaker
65 Somewhere early morning in a hotel room there's a guy starting to realize
66 You could say I lost my faith in science and progress
67 It ain't no joke I'd like to buy the world a toke
68 If you see me walking down the street and I start to cry
69 Its all the same, only the names will change
70 oh, think' about our younger years, there was only you and me
71 Whatever colors you have in mind, I'll show them to you and you'll see them shine
72 I like where we are, when we drive in your car
73 I wish I would've met you, now it's a little late
74 You let me violate you, you let me desecrate you
75 I've been really trying baby, tryin' to hold back this feeling for so long
76 Honey why you calling me so late? It's kinda hard to talk right now.
77 Hello my friend we meet again, it's been a while where should we begin
78 You say you're gonna leave, gonna take that big white bird
79 In my eyes, indisposed, in disguise, as no one knows
80 It's coming on Christmas, they're cutting down trees
The :) means it's all ok.

Was thinking maybe this would be a decent weekly game (10 lyrics or so a week). Perhaps best if themed (60's, 70's, rock, disco, etc.) per week.

FWIW, next year's quiz will be separated into sections (probably by decade) for ease of solving.

Anyway, obviously I don't mind the ripoff, as we ripped off the idea from somewhere else.
La la la la la.

I'm calling BS on this one. :D
I'm all over the dial and I've never heard any version of this on the radio. (I know of three.)

62 was bumper music on the local sports talk station. the host was complaining about the producer not giving him cool bumper music so the producer started playing less and less appropriate stuff.

I kept a pad of paper in my car and would go on huge writing sprees at each stoplight. A few times I tried holding the paper against the steering wheel but that almost ended in disaster a few times so I stopped doing that.

It only took a couple of days worth of commutes to work to get 80 songs.

80 different songs off the local stations? I'm lucky if I can get the local stations to play more than 8 different ones.

Well, on the good side: I recognize a lot more than in JJ's game.
On the bad side: It still are only 10 or so at first glance.

It's a cool thought for a frequent game, though. Just don't expect too much input from me, as I suck at this...
Come play with us, Danny. Forever and ever and ever.

I hear ya. The "lite rock" station that they play at work has essentially the same playlist day in and day out. They also claim to have a "no repeat work day." That's complete hogwash. From time to time, I hear songs repeated. When I notice, I always make sure to fire off an angry email about how they are lying to me. Yes, mistakes happen. It isn't their fault that I am forced to listen to their crap. However, I feel that if I am promised that I must only endure The Goo Goo Dolls cover of "Give a Little Bit" one time per day, I have the right to get angry when it is shoved down my throat the second time. (Yes, I'm a prick.)

Speaking of the Goo Goo Dolls they really surprised me as I surfed the radio the last few days. Last Wednesday in about 45 minutes worth of drive time I heard 3 different songs from them (two of which I heard twice.) They dominated radio that day. Who knew?
