So, what mission are you on, anyway?

something about some John Connor guy

So, after you pass me, I get to go back in time and add a whole bunch of more posts?

Another forum I visit has a pretty elegant solution to handle botspam. I think you might be able to implement it here.

Basically all members of filmwise with 0 posts are unable to post except in a new forum "bot trap", maybe a forum with one open thread. Once they make that post, they become full members with regular posting privileges.

Considering some of the bots post several posts in several forums, I don't see how that will solve the problem.

Because bots very rarely post in specific threads; they almost always create new threads. So if there was one specific thread that would work as a filter, very few of them would hit that specific thread.

I think it's worth a shot. I'll look into it.

What kind of content? He/she just joined today about a half hour before your spam PM, but I can't believe that is a very efficient way for spammers to operate.

I just got this in an email:

Quote:
This is business matter of which i request your urgent attention regarding the business i will like to share with you.Contact me back me for more details

I wish I had a dummy email account that I could use to reply to stuff like this to see how far it goes.

You my find some inspiration here (e.g., this classic). (Also here, for example—though it's pretty specific.)

I laughed out loud when I saw both the handwritten pages and the keyboard.
Genius.

I stumbled upon the subculture that is counter-scamming a few years back, and what these guys do is priceless.
