Not a meeting, but I just got an email from a colleague who was asking me to set up a Fed Ex shipment. His email opens:

It is happening again.

(absolutely unintentional, this guy is so not a Twin Peaks person)

now and again, the heavy curmudgeon in my office will throw out a line to an older film (or the occasional outdated song), expecting no one to recognize the reference.

Today (I forget the relevance) he threw out "I'm surrounded by heathens!"

This one isn't THAT old, but I'm the only one in the room that caught on (I usually am).

He's old enough (barely) to have sired one my age, but he continually makes me feel closer to his age because I'm the only one to get his references. :sigh:

When I am in Court, the judge is a lively funny 80 year old that loves to make old references to see who in the Court gets it. I usually do and I am one of the few. The cool thing is that a lot of them are movie references of references to stars and stuff like that.

Not a meeting, but it made me laugh and there's nowhere else to share it that people might understand and appreciate.

So it's spring migration time, so Mr. B and I have been out on bird walks as often as we can manage. Last night we were on this little path by the river, and we flushed a Barred Owl. She didn't fly far, though, and we could still see her, but she had her back to us. Mr. B was trying to get a picture, and somehow both of us ending up doing very poor owl calls. (it worked in as far as she swiveled her head and was I imagine thinking what are you idiots doing?)

This led to our having this exchange was we walked back down the path.

"Say "Hooo" again! Say "Hooo" again, I dare you! Say "Hoo" one more goddamn time!"
"Owl, Motherfucker--do you speak it?"

Sometimes I feel like the only person who posts in here. Alas.

So I talk to myself all the time. Seriously, all. the. time.. Mr B mostly finds this endearing (my colleagues, less). Tonight I was bustling around in the kitchen putting together a brine for the mojo pork from Chef. So I'm measuring and chopping and peeling and just talking away to myself the whole time. Suddenly I become aware that Mr B is standing in the doorway to the kitchen looking at me oddly.

"Did you just say "Carousel Begins?"

Indeed I had. And I realized that I say that under my breath not infrequently when embarking on a multi-step task. Huh.

Talking to yourself is perfectly fine, as long as you do it in your own voice :mishchief:

Would you believe I've never seen Logan's Run? (parts, but never the whole film)
