The Expendables

#1 Post by Brodieman » 14 May 2009, 06:12

The Expendables

Dir: Sylvester Stallone
Starring: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Eric Roberts, Terry Crews, Danny Trejo, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Charisma Carpenter, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bruce Willis (rumored)

Plot: A team of mercenaries head to South America on a mission to overthrow a dictator. Or a bunch of big muscle guys blowing shit up, while attempting witty dialogue.

Release: 23 April 2010

IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1320253/

I was going to post about the Bruce Willis rumor, but I couldn't find a thread for this.
I did enjoy what Sly did with Rambo, and he seems to be bringing together an interesting group of people for an old school action movie.

This is a 62 year old man :o

Yet they forget Gary Busey as 'the bad guy'...
Come play with us, Danny. Forever and ever and ever.

No matter the quality of the movie (or acting, direction, writing, whatever), this should automatically be qualified as a must-see, based only on that ludicrous cast. Personally, I can't wait to see it.

I was on JCVD's wiki page after watching JCVD and discovered that he had turned down a role in this. That would have been awesome.

I was looking at the imdb message boards and found this list. I dont know how much of it is true, but it appears that Stallone had quite the wish list.

Actors who turned down a role The Expendables
Jean Claude Van Damme - Gunnar Jensen (Didn't like the role)
Wesley Snipes - Hale Ceasar (Legal issues)
Kurt Russell - Church (Doesn't do ensemble acting)
Danny Trejo - Emmanuel (Money)
Ben Kingsley - Monroe (unknown)
Sandra Bullock - Agent Lickson (unknown but has said she will never make more movies that glorify violence)
Forest Whitaker - Hale Ceasar (Schedule conflict)
50 Cent - Hale Ceasar (Sly likely booted him due to negative response)
Robert Knepper - Richard (Schedule conflict)
Alan Tudyk - Richard (Wanted break between projects)
Denis Leary - Agent Sands (Schedule conflict)
John Lurie - Agent Sands (unkown)
Kevin Pollack - Agents Sands (unknown)
Scott Adkins - Dan Paine (Schedule conflict)

I find that hard to believe. Premonition made me want to kill everyone involved with that movie.
Robin: "Gosh, Batman, is there anything you don't know?"
Batman: "Oh yes, Robin. Several things, in fact."

Ha. I was just about to make the same joke only my punchline was going to be the proposal.

This will either be the penultimate action flick, or the combined stars' power will cancel each other out, creating major suckage, in which case our friend A2 will be left with major action-flick blue-balls. :crotchshot:
