This is probably the worst thing you could do to such a classic 80's movie. Yes, I said classic and no one needs to argue with me on that. ;)

I saw that trailer and I thought... is this a remake? I didn't know it was official.
And by worst I am sure you mean no Rob Lowe or Demi Moore nudity... and not that it's an all black cast now right? ;)

Madea and Sexual Perversity in Chicago would be worse.

50 upcoming remakes

Even I think some of these are just pointless

This was an interesting revisit. Of the 50, 4 have actually been remade with a fifth and sixth (Robocop, About Last Night) due in two weeks. With the possible exception of Evil Dead, the four were all dogs -- Dredd, Red Dawn, Carrie.

Have faith, my friends, just because an idea is bandied about, doesn't actually mean it will come ... and the worse the ones like it do, the less likely this path will trend.

FWIW, new Robocop looks awful to me.

Haven't seen any of the ones you've seen. The original Judge Dredd was terrible, though. And from what I've heard the remake was actually closer to its source and reasonably executed (about as well as you could expect from its source).

Also, Oldboy was released a few months back.

Right. Oldboy. Even blogged it. Didn't do the original any favors. Doesn't detract from my thesis in the least.

I have no doubt Dredd was closer to the source material and yet. I found it even worse than the first. And to put that in perspective -- I saw Judge Dredd in a theater in the summer of 1995, hated it, and then snuck in the Species. The Stallone was so awful, I emerged from Species thinking, "huh. What taut thriller! A real gem!" And given the choice of the two Dredd's right now, I'd watch the Stallone.

Agreed. Especially Annie Hall. I would add all of Lynch's films. What do you think? Any more?

I'd say The Elephant Man could probably be remade. And Dune. But not most of his.

A quote from the producer is, and I shit you not: it is a film people watch 10 times and still need to watch again so it makes sense to have a remake.
