So, he has completely lost his mind....

Rambo IV: Pearl of the Cobra
Plot Summary - The next chapter finds Rambo recruited by a group of Christian human rights missionaries to protect them against pirates, during a humanitarian aid deliver to the persecuted Karen people of Burma. After some of the missionaries are taken prisoner by sadistic Burmese soldiers, Rambo gets a second impossible job: to assemble a team of mercenaries to rescue the surviving relief workers.

Is this a joke? The sub-title is laughable by itself. Man in the boat overboard.

"Pearl of the Cobra"? That sounds like a metaphor. If only there were some FWer who had a certain feeling about people who use metaphors, perhaps about people who talk in metaphors.

This has to be a joke.

After having changed its title at least a half dozen times, this movie is now finally known as John Rambo. (Apparently Sly talked to Harry Knowles and his minions after having changed it to Rambo: To Hell and Back and they told him it sucked. Supposedly then Sly realised that people who read AICN are probably his main demographic, so he changed it back.)

Also, here's a poster. Why it only says Rambo I have no idea.

Wasn't that the name of the second movie?

Nope. That was Rambo: First Blood Part II. (How they decided to call the third one Rambo III (instead of, say, First Blood Part III or Rambo II: First Blood Part III or <new title>: Rambo II: First Blood Part III or even <new title>: First Blood Part III, I have no idea.)

The new title, 'Rambo', indicates that this film is a distillation of the qualities of all previous Rambo films. This is the ultimate Rambo. And indeed: it looks like the same old film all over again, only a little more simplified. Fetishistic violence visited by the übermensch on the racially inferior, exploiting his superior knowledge of the local terrain, and fuelled by the righteous hatred of a man scorned, while his victims are just lazy, sweaty, stupid little jungle-people who should have stayed by the campfire, singing songs and gathering berries. Hollywood the coloniser at its most virulent.

(were it not for the fact that Rocky Balboa actually wasn't bad, I'd have been 100% sure that these two reviews were going to be far more entertaining than the movie ... now I'm not 100%)

This one bugs me. Not overly concerned with who would compile such a thing? or why?

The question is: how did this John Mueller get an advanced copy of Rambo on DVD? Do they naturally give them out to guys who hold Chairs of National Security Studies at major universities? Who else got one?

A friend I saw it with had seen this chart prior to going and tried to count the deaths. He came up with about 100 less than the total given here. To be fair, though, there are several times when it's clear a bunch of people just died in an explosion but there's no way to tell just how many folks perished.
