All Things Harry Potter

All movie talk goes in here, whether it's a raving review or a ranting tirade. Basically, anything about movies.

All Things Harry Potter

ALL THINGS HARRY POTTER

Ok, after having gone off-topic in a bunch of other threads, it's about time we have a proper Harry Potter thread.

We can discuss everything in here... well we have the Movie News thread too, but that one has gone beyond Bastard Land, so this is the place.. We can talk books, movies, casting decisions... whatever we want.

Let's start off with the latest 2 bits of news:

1) The first pic of Oldman as Black
Image

2) The rumour of Mike Newell to direct Goblet of Fire

From www.empireonline.co.uk: An American brought the first two to life and the impending third film is in the hands of a Mexican but, with the fourth Harry Potter film, we may finally see a British director at the helm.

Four Weddings director Mike Newell is currently in negotiations to take on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire when Alfonso Cuaron lays down the reigns after completing work on The Prisoner of Azkaban. Having recently finished work on Julia Roberts film Mona Lisa Smile, Newell is currently rearranging his schedule to accommodate the massive project (let's see them cut that book down to two-and-a-half hours)and lead Harry into his fourth year at Hogwarts.

One of Britain's most famous exports in recent years the Harry Potter franchise has yet to enjoy the British touch in its journey from page to screen - though the stellar British cast has gone a long way towards keeping things firmly grounded on our side of the pond. The introduction of a Brit director is a welcome move however and we have no complaints about their choice of man for the job. Roll on 2005.

Could you please make sure not to spoil anything from the latest book or at least mark it as a spoiler region if you do want to discuss it? That would be nice.

Please no spoilers for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Of if you do wanna write about it, just use the quote tags and type the text in white.

Good idea Nunis! Thanks!

Back to Potter :) I didn't imagine Sirius looking like that, but it's Gary Oldman (wich I only know, because I know he ist casted for the role, not because I recognized him :o ) and that's a good thing. I mean, I hope, he will be cool, because Sirius is cool. Man I really didn't drink my "improvement in writing style" magic portion today...

Yeah, like with any Oldman movie, if you didn't know it was him, you'd have to try extra hard to see that it was.

Yeah, he's like that in almost all movies of his (all I have seen anyway). I just have no clue it's him until the credits roll. I think he's gonna do a great job. He needs to be menacing at first, but the loveable and a father figure. And I think he can pull it off.

Oh yeah, back to Potter.

I was talking to Buffy last night about casting issues for Goblet of Fire... Have you any ideas... Moody? Buffy said maybe Brian Cox and I have to say, it's not an entirely crappy suggestion, I can definitely see it. Ideas?

Sounds to me like you need to read them again, my dear.

Mad-eye Moody, Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in Goblet. Has a funny eye, and a wooden leg. Turns Malfoy into a ferret ... Ring any bells? :)
