College Football

#1 Post by Batman » 03 Nov 2008, 07:49

While the following score was a relatively random thing that made me happy, I thought it was better to create a thread that might better encapsulate a few posts capturing the joy when our alma maters' (or current schools') football teams perform well in the waning days of autumn.

Graduates of Duke can probably ignore this thread.

Boston U dropped their football program a few years back, so instead, I've become a fan of my wives TCU Horned Frogs (Currently ranked #12 on BCS)

After next Saturdays game against Utah, we'll see how happy I am for the year.

And the above score made me quite happy. Not a fan of the Bulldogs here
8 more months of school.....

I'm a Bruins sympathizer. These days I mostly just root for whoever SC's playing. So, go Cal then Stanford.

Go Boston College. Time for yet another 7-4 season ending with a "who cares?" bowl appearance. Certainly there are worse things.

And go Cal Bears as well. C'mon, you can disappoint me again; you know you want to.

Gator revenge for last year, Batman?

That's what I'm thinking. Unfortunately, the use of timeouts in the closing minutes will only give fuel to Georgia's revenge fire next year.

Wow. What a weekend. JoPa and #3 Penn St lose to Iowa (23-24) and most likely scuttle their chances for the BCS title. #2 Texas Tech opens the proverbial can of whoop-ass on #8 OK State and wins 56-20. #1 'Bama needs OT to edge #15 LSU. and the Gators manage to stay in it with an easy (though expected) rout of Vandy (42-14) and a clinching of the SEC East title. If the Gators can stay unbeaten through the SEC championship game on Dec 6 (presumably against Alabama), they can have a credible claim to a place in the BCS title game.

"Graduates" "Duke"

Seeing as we won five games in the prior five seasons, our current 3-5 record should garner Cutcliffe coach-of-the-year honors.

'Bama clinched their spot in the SEC championship too, so decent chance on one or the other going to the BCS championship.

Oh, and Notre Dame lost again.

I'm hoping that future years can stop sending the team to postseason and just give us the "Notre Dame Bowl", in which the 5-6 Fighting Irish can play against their own egos in front of a half-empty crowd.

It will be televised on ABC, of course.

:green: I expect them to both be undefeated until they play, and then go against the Big 12 champ. But Florida State could make it interesting for you.

So what if Tech beats Oklahoma and wins the Big12 undefeated, Texas wins out, but doesn't go to the Big 12 because of Tech, and Florida wins a low scoring battle against 'Bama and is unable to leap over Texas in the BCS rakings. Tech v. Texas rematch for the title? Yeah, I know it won't happen because Texas will not have won their league championship or something like that, but hey, a native Texan can dream can't he?

So do y'all think the Red Raiders can get past the Sooners?

Hey, you pay your coach $2.9 million a year and they beat the #3 team. That's a return on investment, pal. (for the record, I actually like Ferentz and he and his wife are very cool and low key and donate tons of money to charitable organizations--unlike Steve Alford who was the biggest asshole imaginable--but I still find it embarassing that the highest paid state employee is the football coach.)

While I won't be surprised if Tech wins, it certainly won't be as easy as this post insinuates.

If they Sooners can stop losing defensive players they should be able to squeak past the Raiders.
