Computer & Video Games

#1 Post by Gren » 08 Apr 2003, 14:37

So that the film based computer/video games topic doesn't get too sidetracked I thought i'd start a new one here. Just a place to discuss what have been/are your favourite games, ever.

Off the top of my head, I had unhealthy obsessions with all these.

Krackout - Commodore 64
Midwinter - Commodore Amiga (Did anybody else ever play this game? I loved it, but nobody else ever remembers it, and the only thing I could find of it online was a review in the Amiga Games DataBase)
Legend of Zelda 3 - SNES
Super Mario World - SNES
Super Mario Kart - SNES
California Games - Sega Megadrive
ISS Pro Evolution - PSX
Tomb Raider 3 - PSX (If anyone could tell me what to do on the secret level I would be grateful just for peace of mind! Also did anybody actually ever kill the last boss! All my friends had to resort to cheating to see the end game sequence, and believe me it wasn't a decision made easily)
Final Fantasy 7 - PSX
Metal Gear Solid - PSX
Hitman: Codename 47 - PC
Championship Manager (in all it's guises till 4!) - Amiga/PC
Grand Theft Auto 3/VC - PS2

2 good calls there my man! Gran Turismo the most original and probably best racing game of all time (just fending off Lotus Turbo Esprit Challenge on Amiga!) and Syphon Filter. Can you believe my friends and I dedicated many hours to it up to a level where you have to follow a little bald guy out of a nuthouse but all the guards are wearing flak jackets. Then one day the game just wouldn't work properly anymore! Only the background images came up, no enemies or obstacles and your gun was yellow! We went complaining to the shop but they said it must have been something we did. After that I never really played on it again, I think my mate bought it and completed it. But then about 6 months ago when I had all the good PS2 games that were out (as far as I was concerned) I bought Syphon Filter 1, 2 & 3 to try and workthrough, but I couldn't really get into it. What at the time seemed like amazing graphics now look crappy and I just couldn't get the same feeling back as when I loved it.

The LucasArts adventure games are usually very good. I didn't like Sam and Max but all the other are very enjoyable.

Duck Hunt rules! I was showing my nephew the wonders of Nintendo on Sunday and got so involved in the game the poor kid didn't get a go.

Shamefully (again), I've left another one off my list....

The old lucasfilm games were great... I played them all except Day of the Tentical... cuz when that one came out my computer wasn't new enough to play it... and then when I upgraded I never bought it... then when I finally had it my computer was too new to play it... it sucked. But I did Manic Mansion, Zack Mcracken, Fate of Atlantis... all of the Monkey Islands... those were great!

But I was always mostly into the old Sierra games myself...

King's Quest, Space Quest, Hero's Quest, Leisure Suit Larry (Classic!)
Police Quest ect... they don't make games like that anymore...

Cept maybe once a year... they recently came out with Syberia and before that was The Longest Journey...
