Forums FAQ - ANSWERS

1 General
1.1 Which one of the forums should I post in?
It depends on the content of your post. Here's what the different forums are for:
  • FilmWise Stuffages: anything about the FilmWise site itself.
  • Movie News and Trailers: conversations about upcoming movies.
  • DVD Dirt Forum: conversations about current and future DVDs.
  • QuizWise: games created by other FilmWisers. You can also create your own games and post them there.
  • Movie Madness: anything about movies that doesn't fit into one of the already-mentioned forums.
  • Anything else should go into Open Ended.
1.2 Who are The Boyz?
Nipples and Studboy (a.k.a. Brian and Jim) are the guys who put together FilmWise (the Photoshopping, the programming, the money for upkeep, etc.) Read more here.
1.3 Etiquette
1.3.1 What kind of manners are expected in the Forums?
This is a friendly forum. We are appreciating the same media, but not necessarily the same movies, directors or actors... Expressing opinions and arguing about meaningless details are part of the fun. Keep in mind that everybody earns respect.
1.3.2 My post may contain information that "spoils" the plot of a movie (e.g., "Why does the Titanic sink?") -- should I still post it?
You can, but try to do it discreetly: for example, you can use spoiling info. Try it in preview and you'll see for yourself how it works.
1.3.3 I'm about to start a new thread that may duplicate an existing thread -- should I see if a thread already exists?
Yes! If you have an interesting topic to discuss, it's very likely that someone else felt the same way already. If you start a new thread, future users could be desperately torn between the two (or more!) threads. Use the Search function.
1.3.4 I just read a post that offended me -- whom do I talk to about getting it removed?
Volunteer moderators are the ones in charge. PM (or write) to them about the post you read and they will deal with it.
1.4 Status
1.4.1 What are these different rankings for (e.g., Hollywood Hopeful, Paparrazi, Key Grip, etc.)?
They are a function of the number of posts you have made (the more posts you make, the higher your rank).
1.4.2 Why are some people's names green or orange while mine is blue?
The colors are depending on your FilmWise "experience". Roses are Red, Users are Blue; Moderators are green and The Boyz are Two.
1.5 Is there any easy way to quote multiple posts in a single post, or do you have to do a lot of pasting?
Sorry, there's no easy method built into FilmWise for quoting multiple posts.

2.1.1 Invisibles
2.1.1.1 How do The Boyz make the Invisibles?
Please see this thread.
2.1.1.2 Where are the answers to the Excel-format Invisibles quiz my friend emailed me?
Unfortunately, The Boyz didn't create any of these quizzes. People are discussing the results on the boards sometimes and this thread tries to track all posts related to this.
2.1.1.3 I've made my own Invisibles -- can I send them to you?
As you could see it on the front page, you can send them to the Boyz at this address: submissions@filmwise.com.
2.1.1.4 What is the answer to #4 (or #1, #2, ...) on the current Invisibles quiz?
Take a look in the FilmWise Stuffages forum, you might find some (cryptic and witty) hints each week.
2.1.2 Contests, Tournaments, Visual Quizzes, and Text Quizzes
2.1.2.1 I've asked for answers to the current contest -- why isn't anybody helping me?
By definition these are contests. With awesome prizes. Be patient and wait for the results the next month. Or put your friends to work.
2.1.2.2 When is the next FilmWise Tournament?
All the informations are on the FilmWise Contests page. See proper link above.
2.1.3 Can I use images that I found on FilmWise for my own purposes?
All the images from the Invisibles, Contests and Visual Quizzes are original creations from The Boyz. You should ask them properly (A box of chocolates always helps).
2.2 Forum Games -- QuizWise
2.2.1 What is QuizWise?
It's the users-created quizzes forum. Users are making their own games and rules. Make sure to read the first post of each new game to learn about them. Got an idea? Don't hesitate.
2.2.2 Types of Games
2.2.2.1 What is a PM game?
PM Game is a game in which you submit your answers via Private Messages sent to the game master, so the other contestants can not see your answers. These games are usually played over a long period. You must be careful about several things:
  1. The Deadline
  2. Your Time Zone
  3. Be sure to hit the PM button of the right person.
2.2.2.2 What is an old-school game?
An old school game is a game played "live". Don't miss the beginning of the game (Set by the game master usually a few days before). Questions AND answers are posted on the thread. The first one to get the answer right get the points. Low connections are a pain.
2.2.2.3 What is a fund-raising game (FRP)?
All willing participants are entering the game by paying a small fee (using a credit card and Paypal most of the time). A little prize is offered to the winner of the game. The rest of the money goes to the Boyz who have been entertaining us for free since 2001.
2.2.2.4 What is a chain game?
It's a game in which a player that finds the correct answer is supposed to ask the next question and so on.
2.2.2.5 I found a chain game that doesn't have a new question, can I hijack it and post one?
If it's been at least a day or two since the last answer, feel free to hijack it.
2.2.3 What does it mean to be "PBed"?
"PBed" can either mean "Peacock Blocked" or "Post Blocked". It originally meant the former but since that hasn't occured in quite some time it has also come to mean the latter. Long ago, many a FilmWiser was thwarted in a real-time answer games by forum member Jeremy Peacock. This was quite common and the frustration led to the creation of the phrase. It was used as a way to let others know your answer was not the most current and you had been beaten again.
3 Avatars
3.1 What is an avatar?
As in the Matrix, it's your representation in the FilmWise world. Except that you don't fly and stuff. It is the picture underneath your user name, on the left of all your posts.
3.2 Where can I get an avatar?
Several solutions: At the bottom of the Profile page, you can either choose your avatar in an avatar gallery, or paste the link of an image you found on the Net. You can also make your own avatar and then host the picture (or find someone to host it for you) and paste the link the same way. You can also read this thread.
3.3 Are there any restrictions (e.g., width, height, and file size)?
An avatar shouldn't be larger than 200 pixels in width and 300 pixels in height since scrolling in every directions because of a gigantic avatar is painful. As for the file size, a static avatar shouldn't be more than 100kB and an animated avatar not more than 500kB.
3.4 How do I make an animated avatar?
See this thread.
3.5 I've made an avatar -- now where can I put it so it can be my avatar on the forums?
On the Internet. You'll need your own site, a provider or a friend who can host it for you. Then paste the url link of the avatar in the Link to off-site Avatar box at the bottom of the Profile page.
3.6 Why do lots of people seem to have similarly themed avatars, with the theme changing weekly?
Sometimes, themes are chosen for a week or so. Check the Avatars thread in the Movie Madness forum for the latest update.
4 Other
4.1 Who's the Boss?
Some say Angela Bower. Others, Tony Micelli. Still another camp believe's it's Mona Robinson. All we're really sure of is that it isn't Jonathan.
4.2 Who's the black private dick who's a sex machine to all the chicks?
John Shaft (shut yo mouth!).
4.3 Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Dr. Doom and his weasels.
4.4 Can I pee on the rug?
No -- it really ties the room together.
