FilmWise Tournament #3 - Round 1 ANSWERS |
Welcome to Round 1 of FilmWise's Tournament #3, I hope you like it! There is a total of 48 points possible in this first round. Keep in mind that you may submit answers as many times as you'd like before the Friday deadline, but I will only use your last submission. Also note that the tourneys are scored manually, so don't stress too much over every bit of spelling and punctuation; if it's close, it'll be fine. If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email at brian@filmwise.com and I'll answer them and stuff. Also, I'd love to get your feedback on different puzzle types, what you liked and didn't like, that sort of thing, for later rounds and future tourneys.
Random Images (1 pt. each, 8 pts. possible) |
A pretty straight-forward start to get things going. Name the movie each image is from. That's it. |
Movie: "Jaws" |
Movie: "The Mission" |
Movie: "Minority Report" |
Movie: "Risky Business" |
Movie: "The Fly" |
Movie: "Welcome to Mooseport" |
Movie: "Moonlight Mile" |
Movie: "Living In Oblivion" |
Dial-A-Match (10 pts. possible) |
To play Dial-A-Match, spin the slot-machine-esque wheels until you match an actor to at least one of his/her movies. In each puzzle, each of the actors in the middle has one match on either the left or right side. However, one (and only one) actor has a match on both the left and right, which is what you'd like to figure out. You can score 2 points simply by matching any actor to one of his/her movies. But you can score 5 points if you find the one correct actor to two of his/her movies. Important note: After you make your match, in each of the middle wheels, you must name the movie the actor is shown in, not the name of the actor. (That would be too easy!) |
Dial-A-Match #1 (2 pts. for an actor and one movie match, 5 pts. for an actor and two movie matches) |
Movie: "School of Rock" |
Movie: "Anchorman" (Jack Black) |
Movie: "Envy" |
The answers above are for the 5 pt. triple match (or 2 pts. if you got two of them). The other 2-pt. matches were:
"Elf" and "Zoolander" (Will Ferrell)
"Dodgeball" (Ben Stiller) and "Envy"
"Dodgeball" (Ben Stiller) and "Meet the Parents"
"The Truman Show" (Jim Carrey) and "Bruce Almighty"
Dial-A-Match #2 (2 pts. for an actor and one movie match, 5 pts. for an actor and two movie matches) |
Movie: "Pleasantville" |
Movie: "Vanity Fair" (Reese Witherspoon) |
Movie: "Sweet Home Alabama" |
The answers above are for the 5 pt. triple match (or 2 pts. if you got two of them). The other 2-pt. matches were:
"Garden State" and "Leon: The Professional" (Natalie Portman)
"Mona Lisa Smile" and "Bring It On" (Kirsten Dunst)
"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" (Kate Winslet) and "Titanic"

Love and Death (or Eight Weddings and Eight Funerals) (1 pt. each, 16 pts. possible) |
Eight weddings are represented on the left and eight funerals are represented on the right. Name as many as you can, and don't worry about the order in which you list them, cuz it don't matter. Note: There is some variance in volume levels (oops!), so I'd suggest you keep your hand on the volume control. |

Distortions - Part 1 (1 pt. each, 4 pts. possible) |
Here's an idea that we "borrowed" from longtime FilmWiser Nunis and her Big Quiz II (in our Forums). The idea is this: We've distorted four movie shots. In each round, the same images are going to become less and less distorted. In each round, identifying the image will be worth 1 point, so if you're able to identify them in earlier rounds, you'll get extra points over those who don't identify them until later rounds. (Thanks for the idea, Nunis!) |
